The Government Doesn’t Get It, Or Do They?
Or do they? This week Googles CEO Sundar Pichai spent some time with Congress. Whether you watched it, read about it, or were there; it was most definitely another episode of Congress proving they just don’t really know how the Internet works. Or do they?

As the hearing started, one of the first questions fired off came from Rep. Lamar Smith who made a claim that 96% of Google’s search results were backed by liberal sources, a claim that has been debunked, multiple times. Yet, Smith firmly believes otherwise.

Continuing into the 3.5-hour hearing, Rep. Steve Chabot sadly owned himself, bringing to light a personal experience, why did Google return negative results on the Republicans’ bill to repeal Obamacare. And the same with their tax plan. This continued with Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert who was clearly upset that Google uses Wikipedia data in its searches. Ironic since the main driver of topic here is in regards to political bias.via GIPHY

However, with all of the hoopla being said and shared all over the web I have to play devil’s advocate. It was not all that long ago where the public was constantly freaking out about the NSA and wishing that it would end. Needless to say, in my opinion, the representatives in these hearings and the hearings themselves are just for show. Regardless, the bias and conspiracies in all of these hearings most definitely dodge many important issues which Vox did a great job hitting on.

About Benjamin

Ever since I can remember I’ve been dabbling in something. I learned early on that if you wanted something you had to earn it. You had to spot windows of opportunity and then execute. It started with trading baseball cards and mowing yards as a kid. Growing to become a self-taught freelancer and founder, I have created brands and advise brands at Surman & Co. Nothing has changed since I was a kid. I still seek windows of opportunity to this day and capitalize on it with my ability to mend creativity with strategy.
